Green Valley is one of the larger active adult communities in the world. It is actually a collection of developments and communities located in extreme southern Arizona. The population is over 21,000 and growing. Surrounded by copper mines, and near the hiking and birding areas of the Santa Rita Mountains, Green Valley is an unincorporated retirement community composed of 59 Homeowner Associations. Homeowners who live within Green Valley Recreation areas are members of Green Valley Recreation. Green Valley Recreation, Inc. (GVR) is the organization serving the leisure and social needs of the age-restricted households in Green Valley. Over a dozen subdivisions combine to form the collective GVR association. Unlike most retirement communities that restrict residents to the amenities and social activity found within their particular neighborhood, GVR amenities and clubhouses are open to all members regardless of which community or subdivision in which they reside. The unique concept provides residents with a more robust, well-rounded community.
Green Valley Recreation Amenities
Being a member of GVR provides limitless access to the social and leisure activities offered in the valley. With a small annual fee, members have access to 13 recreation centers that include amenities such as fitness centers, hobby and craft areas, aerobics and dance studios, woodworking shops, and multi-purpose meeting rooms. Outside, the grounds of Green Valley are an active adult playground adorned with 13 swimming pools, scenic lakes, miles of walking and biking trails and tennis, pickleball, bocce ball, shuffleboard and basketball courts.Golfers will find a variety of exciting and challenging courses in Green Valley including eight championship golf courses and a number of courses in the surrounding area.
